Editorial standards

Images and media policy

Images must be licensed, public domain, Creative Commons with attribution, supplied with permission, or generated and clearly labeled.

Publisher media

We do not copy or hotlink a publisher image merely because it accompanies a source article. Publisher media is used only when the publication holds an applicable license or permission.

Generated illustrations

When suitable documentary media is unavailable, an original editorial illustration may be generated. It is labeled as AI-generated, must not impersonate documentary evidence, and must not invent a real scene.

Storage and attribution

Reusable licensed images may be archived in our object storage for reliable delivery. Archiving never removes the original source link, creator credit, license terms, or the distinction between an illustrative image and documentary evidence.

Corrections

Incorrect credits, descriptions, or licenses can be reported through the contact page and are corrected visibly.
